Do you ever wonder where ad agencies find all of the beautiful people they feature in print ads and on billboards. What about the women on magazine covers–are they really that perfect? Perhaps, if you had a team of make up artists and hair stylists, you could be as beautiful.

But will the master’s tools ever dismantle the master’s house? Dove is as prone to the same stuff as anyone else-even with their campaign for real beauty, they’re still operating under a given framework-the little girl who needs self-esteem help for “thinking she’s fat,” for example.
I don’t disagree. This piece, while produced by Dove, is simply a real life illustration of how what we are lead to believe in the media is often a complete distortion of reality. I do applaud Dove for taking some important steps in opening discussions about body image and expanding on what it means to be beautiful, but what truly matters is how we individually define beauty for ourselves. Believing what any company, group, media source, or other outside influence says about you just because it’s been said is dangerous. It’s more important to understand the real life impact of what you believe about yourself.
