It’s just a little intoxicating for a shoe lover like myself. Let’s get serious for just a moment. The more I blog, twitter, facebook, network, write, chat, etc. The more aware I become of how I represent my business and my readers. For the most part, I’m happy with who I am. Am I in the perfect body–no. Do I seek to eat right and lead an active lifestyle which may mean that I will no longer wear plus sized clothing–yes. Do I want to feel attractive–yes. Do I get sucked in sometimes to mainstream ideas about what makes a woman attractive–absolutely. But the real question is am I Proud to be Plus?
The best way to answer is to check my actions. We often say one thing thinking we mean what we say but then turn around and behave in a way contrary to our words. And we all know that actions speak louder! So, am I Proud to be Plus? I’d have to say most of the time, but not all of the time. Here’s an example. I just created our Facebook page in order to network with readers, create another point of access for women who need to get connected to information and resources, and share updates. To do social networking right, you really need to immerse yourself in it. So, I started becoming a fan of all of our partner merchant’s who have pages on Facebook. Of course these additions began to appear in my FB updates for everyone to see. To be honest, I was a little anxious about that. While my heart is 100% passionate about encouraging all people to love themselves and feel beautiful just the way they are. especially curvy women, I was feeling a little nervous about all of my FB friends knowing that I’m a Plus.
I got a huge wake up call. I need to walk the walk so to speak. Don’t get me wrong, I love to look good in clothes that are beautiful and cut to fit me, and when they do, I’m happy to embody the “If you’ve got it flaunt it” mentality. I get so sick of designers and retailers that don’t take into account that plus sized women would like to wear the latest styles along with everyone else. However, for just a brief moment, I felt real discomfort about sharing that enthusiasm for all of you with the world. I wasn’t sure that I wanted those who new my name to know my size as well.
Thankfully, I am happy with who I am. So, to make it absolutely official, I am Angie Meeks, and I am Proud to be Plus! I love my curves, and I look great when my inner attitude matches my outer style. I can represent!! So, world, watch out! Cherry Heels are ready to walk tall and in style!
